Real Estate in Barra Grande and Taipu de Fora, Marau

In terms of the Marau Peninsula, Barra Grande has always the been the focus for tourism, and logically, growth in real estate and property values followed. But long before real estate in Barra Grande and Taipu de Fora began to take off and property values began to soar, the region had been popular for tourism with backpackers and hardcore travelers. The only way to access Barra Grande was by slow boat from Camamu (by far the easiest way), or by putting a 4-wheel drive on a tiny ferry from Itacare to the southernmost beach of the Marau, traveling almost 50 kilometers on a terrible road. Yes, it was beautiful, but only for adventurers.

This changed after the extension of Bahia highway BA-001 in 2007, which included a bridge across the Rio de Contas, doing away with the need for a ferry from Itacare. Speedboats a became the preferred method from Camamu to Barra Grande, reducing the crossing time from 1 ½ hours to 30 minutes. Land for Sale signs were everywhrere, and tourists from all over began coming in droves, mainly to Barra Grande where all the pousadas were, but now they were beginning to explore the isolated, pristine beauty of the beaches below Barra Grande, namely Taipu de Fora, Cassange and Algodoes Beach.

Real estate in Barra Grande began to take off as well, and property lots in Barra Grande and Taipu were selling cheaply by international and Brazilian standards. The same people trying to sell you a boat tour were also trying to sell you a property in Barra Grande or a lot in Taipu de Fora, and people were buying them! Wooded lots along the beach were commonplace, and beachfront properties without fences were the norm.

Barra Grande is the main tourist destination on the Marau Peninsula, and the neighboring beach Taipu de Fora, is considered to be in the top 5 of Brazil’s most beautiful beaches.

To say that Barra Grande real estate has exploded in the past 10 years is an understatement.
