Camamu e Baía Imóveis, Terrenos e Fazendas a Venda

Intro to Camamu and Bay of Camamu

The Bay of Camamu is the third largest bay in all of Brazil, the 2 largest being Guanabara in Rio de Janeiro and Baia de Todos os Santos in Salvador.

The geography of this region is unlike any other in Brazil. Natives here historically lived along the vast mangrove forests, and the economy was and still is based on fishing and the abundant shellfish from the bay, along with commerce based around the various types of palm and spice trees that are native to the region. These include the dende palm (an oil used in cooking), piassava (the bristles used in brooms around the world), heart of palm, clove and black pepper, among others. Until very recently, almost all transportation was by boat or canoe, and the villages outside of the city of Camamu had no electricity except small generators.

This relative isolation is why this region has retained its natural beauty. No major industry, very little pollution, and no major deforestation for cattle or crops. Land here is still relatively cheap, the main reason being it is not on the ocean. However, if you love the water, there are fantastic waterfront properties available, including islands for sale in the Bay of Camamu.
